Pythagoras and some scholars believed that the world is related to mathematics and that numbers were the ultimate reality and through mathematics everything could be predicted and measured in a systematic patterns or cycle. He once said that numbers is the ruler of forms and idea that cause of God and demons. In contrary to Pythagoras, numerology has always been condemned by the priest / Christianity. There was a reluctance in the christian teachers of early centuries to recognize the significance of the numbers to extremes. Whether numbers really do have significance is still debated by many researchers or scholars till now.
Whether numerology applies in biblical history is very subjective. It depends on how you interpret its history or in short I would say how you look at it. Each and everyone would have a different perception or interpretation about the biblical history. However based on some facts in biblical history, I would say numbers have significance influence in biblical history. For example. The trinity (number 3) consists of Father, son and Holy spirit. 2nd example:- there are 3 qualities of Universe i.e Time, Space and Matter. 3rd exp Future , Present and Past and last exp. Height, Width and Depth. I would summarize the above by saying that we live in Trinity of Trinities. I think, Roman 1:20 will be the most ideal reading about the significance of Numbers.
Romans 1:20 - " Ever since the creation of the world his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to understood and perceived in what he has made".
Therefore, I believe that bible uses numbers in patterns. Based on some facts in bible, number 40 is significant and this relates to Jesus's 40 days experience in desert and Israelite's story of wandering in the desert for 40 years. It doesn't mean that numerology should have significance influence to one's life. Numerology is a guide to help us to understand about the surroundings and live a better life.
In answering whether it is in line with scriptures and faith. I would say "NO". No matter how people like Pythagoras, would argue that through numbers/mathematics everything could be predicted and measured in a systematic patterns or cycle, for me, it remains subjective. Can anyone live a life by having faith in the numbers alone. Only God knows what he actually planned for us. Only God has the answer for every puzzle created by him. Only God will love everyone and does not discriminate anyone in anyway. Only God will give whatever you ask for without fail. Only God will save us forever and ever.....Praise you Lord, The Giver of Life.
" For in it is revealed the righteousness of God from faith to faith; as it is written " The one who is righteous by faith will live"
